Welcome to our first news roundup of November. I think we all know the big news this week was the presidential election, but here are a few other headlines affecting the alternative fuel and transportation industry:
- Alliance AutoGas partner Blue Star Gas is helping Seattle-area fleets like airport transportation fleet MasterPark and the City of Edmonds save thousands on fuel costs by switching to clean propane autogas.
- A new report from the N.C. Solar Center finds the Iredell County Sheriff’s propane autogas fleet, converted and fueled through Alliance AutoGas, is reducing emissions and fuel costs by half since running on autogas.

Fleet operating costs edged up in 2012, with gasoline and diesel the biggest source of operating costs for fleets.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District awarded nearly $33 mil to Southern California school districts for the purchase of clean-burning propane autogas and CNG buses to replace older diesel school buses in their fleets. Districts were also awarded funds to retrofit their diesel school buses with particulate matter traps to reduce emissions.

The Poudre School District in Colorado has implemented two propane autogas-powered buses, which are the first of their kind in a northern Colorado school district fleet.

Land of Sky in Asheville, N.C., is the latest DOE Clean Cities Coalition. The organization was instrumental in helping Buncombe County fleet Mountain Mobility convert fleet vehicles to clean propane autogas through the Alliance AutoGas program.

The CEO of Veolia Transportation was named the 2012 Large Fleet Operator of the Year by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association. Veolia operates Baltimore’s Yellow Cab, which recently launched the first propane autogas taxi fleet in Baltimore.
